Iron Filings

One of the key ingredients in this recipe is iron filings—magnetic slime won't work without them. Using iron filings will result in a sticky but highly magnetic slime. Magnetic powder is somewhat magnetic and gives your slime the magnet look.

Things To Know

We definitely recommend parental supervision while making this slime at home.

Magnets and water = RUST: Do not make a large batch of magnetic slime—it will rust in only a few days. Making magnetic slime is not as easy as our other recipes; it’s hard to incorporate the ingredients using your hands, and patience will pay off. You’re using neodymium magnets with a very powerful force, so when mixed with glue the texture will feel very heavy and have an ultra pull. These magnets are NOT to be swallowed. Do not allow small children to touch the magnets unsupervised.

Safety Notes

Do not make this recipe without adult supervision. Some ingredients could be tempting for small children who put things in their mouths. Keep magnets away from children, pets, computers, cell phones, and other magnets.

Treat this like a fun science experiment: use chemistry and common sense. We recommend a face mask (nose and mouth) and protective gloves.

How To Store

Magnetic slime will not last long and begins to rust within two to three days. Make smaller batches, play with it as much as you can, then make more another time.

Do not attempt to eat magnetic slime. To dispose, place the slime in a bag that ties or has a closure, then put it in a concealed trash container. Most magnets can be thrown away in regular trash.
